On 4/28/24 at 12:21 a.m. SPD officers located in the area of Statesboro Place Circle heard multiple gunshots. Flock acoustic gunshot detectors also registered the discharges as coming from The Vault Apartments at 1699 Statesboro Place Circle. Officers searching the area discovered shell casings and damaged vehicles in the parking lot and in the common areas of the 3 Building. Noting damage to an apartment’s window, officers discovered a 20 year old male inside suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. He was taken to East Georgia Regional Medical Center and treated, being released after several hours of care. ![]()

Information provided by residents of the 3 Building led officers to a third floor apartment in that building. Detectives issued a search warrant for that location and Patrol officers secured all of the occupants, who were transported to SPD for interviews. Detectives located two firearms inside of the residence. ![]()

After multiple interviews and the processing of the crime scene and apartment, detectives determined that the victim was an innocent third party. An exchange of gunfire between two groups at the 3 Building resulted in a bullet entering the victim’s apartment and striking him. At this time detectives have charged three individuals in connection with the case: ![]()

On April 19, 2024, a man contacted Dispatch to advise that he was in a local park, with a firearm, and would shoot anyone who came near him. Officers responded and contacted the man who was clearly in an agitated state. A revolver was on the bench next to him and he continued to make threats. Officers were able to separate the man from the revolver and took him into custody using less lethal means. The man was taken to the hospital for evaluation, and the revolver was recovered. This turned out to be a CO2 powered BB Gun, but the officers had no way of knowing that at the time. This is the kind of story that never makes the news, yet it is a great example of the amazing work being performed in our community every day by our officers.
Georgia State Law OCGA 40-6-16 requires you to move over or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles with flashing lights on the shoulder of a road. Failure to reduce speed or move over could result in fines up to $500.00. We will be running a move over campaign today to educate the public, and to emphasize that moving over ensures the safety of all first responders, tow truck drivers, and citizens.
